What does it mean to be gay?

Being sexually attracted to other guys is a sign of being gay.
Quite often these feelings will gradually emerge in childhood and will develop over time into adulthood. Some guys may find that they are also sexually attracted to women, and this is called being bisexual.

Growing up gay

During puberty, many guys will have some feelings towards other guys. For some, this may just pass over. For some, the feelings may simply grow stronger and their feelings of sexual attraction for other guys will become clearer defined and may develop into other emotional feelings. Guys may find that they have crushes on other guys around them perhaps at school.

Does this mean I am gay?

No one can tell you, you are gay, bisexual or straight, only yourself, but there are some questions which you can ask yourself to help you. For example, do you ever fantasise or dream about other guys in a sexual way? Have you or do you fancy or feel like you have fallen in love with another guy? Do you feel like you are different in some way to other guys?

It is important that you don't label yourself to early. Give yourself time. If you are still young, your emotions and feelings are still developing. When the time is right, you will know.

Perhaps try calling a local Lesbian and Gay Switchboard, or visiting an LGB youth Group. In the longer term, you may want to consider coming out.
